Even #1 Needs A Coach

Roger was in trouble.

Last year Roger Federer, with his record of 16 grand slam tennis titles found himself in trouble in a match with a player who ordinarily he would have dispatched easily. This was especially embarrassing since Roger was the top ranked player at the event and the defending Champion. His opponent was a player with a career record below 500.

He turned to his coach.

But due to being forced off the course by two rain delays and “pushed” by a player playing at an unusually high level Federer turned to his team’s Davis Cup Captain Severin Luti for some advice during the breaks. Severin told him to be more aggressive early, use more drop and use more drop shots late.

After Federer walked off the court with a 7-6 victory he told reporters,

“Those were good things he told me. Those little details make a crucial difference.”

While you are in the heat of battle there are so many things to keep up with that its easy to find yourself making some slight mistakes that undermine everything you are trying to do. Its also true that at the highest levels the difference between winning and losing is very small. Little things make a big difference.

The Solution?

An informed extra set of eyes. A coach watching the action, looking out for your best interest. Someone with your best interests at heart who can notice any small little adjustments needed to win.

The point – everyone can play better with coaching, and everyone needs coaching to reach their peak.
