PAINFULLY IMPERFECT

If elections don’t teach anything else, they teach that no one is perfect.

Nothing can expose imperfections like the hot glare of politics. Run for office and expect to be exposed.

In the pressure of the spotlight, candidates say all kinds of ridiculous things.
If they get elected they will have enough time to say a bunch of them. Most Presidents are honored with books like “The Stupid Sayings of George Bush.” These are actually incredibly funny. It’s always enjoyable to have a laugh at your President’s expense.

They not only misspeak, they forget things.
They have squabbles with their campaign staff. There’s always going to be a wild card or two among their friends and family. Do we need to be reminded of Billy Carter or Roger Clinton?

Yet these candidates never get embarrassed and quit

  • They keep on.
  • They fight.
  • They find ways to continue.

They keep working to raise the money and voting support until there is no chance of winning.

  • They expect a fight.
  • They know it’s part of the process.

They know that their competition faces the same issues.

  • They know winning is never automatic.
  • They give people reasons to have faith in them
  • They know weak leaders can’t win

That’s what we need to learn from them.

  • That’s the lesson for us all.
  • Stay tough mentally
  • Don’t let imperfections make you quit

No one is perfect. Keep Fighting. Those that do are the ONLY ones who WIN!

Perfection—No Such Thing On Earth

Don't let yourself get hung up when things aren't perfect. We are imperfect people. We live in an imperfect world. You aren’t perfect. I’m not perfect. Save yourself the shock and anger.

Why are people shocked when...

...the government is not perfect

…when their leaders are not perfect

…when their parents aren't perfect

…when their boss is not perfect

…when their kids are not perfect

…when their neighbors are not perfect?

It's an imperfect world.

Once you realize that, it makes it easy for you decide to start cutting people slack. It makes it easier to overlook or forgive some of these injustices and humiliations that we endure during the course of life.

We need to realize that we're just as capable of anybody else of blundering our way into situations and offending others. It will it a lot easier to cut other people slack once you realize there's going to be times you want people to cut you slack. You can work for and train for perfection, but just don’t expect it. It's not going to happen and you’ll just drive yourself and everyone around you crazy.
