For 2012 to Be Great, We Need Heroes

There’s no substitute for special people.

If 2012 will be memorable, it will be because someone will do something that is extraordinarily special and captures the imagination of the world. 2012 can be special in either a positive or negative way.

The this is also true in your world, business, and areas of interest. If this goes down as an incredibly memorable standout year, it will be because something spectacular and monumental happened. History is the story of events caused by movements and leaders and they can be positive or negative.

Negative—when people think 1929 they think of the Great Depression. When we think of 2001 we don’t think of wonderful things that happened, we remember 9/11.

There is always a battle between good and evil, the positives and the negatives. We know it’s no challenge to find spectacularly evil negative things. They’re going to happen anyway.

Devastating famines in Africa, earthquakes destroying Haiti, tsunamis destroying parts of Japan and Thailand. Icelandic volcano eruptions shutting down air traffic for weeks all over Europe. There’s no shortage of negative events.

For positives we need great heroes

In baseball, people still talk about when Babe Ruth hit 60 home runs in 1927. In boxing, everyone remembers Joe Louis fighting at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin in Nazi Germany while the world watched. In basketball, everyone remembers 1989 when Michael Jordan won his championship.

For people trying to get major league soccer started in the United States 2007 was an historic year because that’s when David Beckham signed with the LA Galaxy. Since then in 4 years they’ve had 7 new teams signed on and 9 stadiums have been renovated. Multi-million dollar deals have been signed and the leagues are now broadcast on national TV.

In Chile they’ll always remember 2011 for the heroic survival of 33 Chilean miners and those who worked around the clock to save them. It was one of their countries finest hours.

Look around the examples are everywhere

Heroes, great events, great leaders driving great movements make the world go around.

If you want 2012 to be memorable in your world think about doing your part to make something heroic and wonderful happen.
