Perfection—No Such Thing On Earth

Don't let yourself get hung up when things aren't perfect. We are imperfect people. We live in an imperfect world. You aren’t perfect. I’m not perfect. Save yourself the shock and anger.
Why are people shocked when...
...the government is not perfect
…when their leaders are not perfect
…when their parents aren't perfect
…when their boss is not perfect
…when their kids are not perfect
…when their neighbors are not perfect?
It's an imperfect world.
Once you realize that, it makes it easy for you decide to start cutting people slack. It makes it easier to overlook or forgive some of these injustices and humiliations that we endure during the course of life.
We need to realize that we're just as capable of anybody else of blundering our way into situations and offending others. It will it a lot easier to cut other people slack once you realize there's going to be times you want people to cut you slack. You can work for and train for perfection, but just don’t expect it. It's not going to happen and you’ll just drive yourself and everyone around you crazy.

I like this idea because I know so many artists who are paralyzed by perfectionism. My paintings are never perfect, and never finished, but I have to let them go at some point. It's an important lesson that quality is more important than being "perfect."
It is hard to put 'perfection' and 'creative' on the same page! I need to keep reminding myself of this. I do think they each use an opposite side of the brain!
